Mto wa Mbu
Is situated on the way from Arusha to the great national parks of northern Tanzania , which include Ngorongoro and Serengeti. It is a green oasis just at the foot of the rift valley and bordering Lake Manyara . A visit to Mto wa Mbu includes farm tours, country walks and a view into the culture of many different tribes that have migrated to the area but have retained their tribal way of life.
Rift Valley Escarpment Climb
Walk from your lodge or campsite to the top of the Rift Valley Wall. On the way you will walk across farms and meet peasants doing their daily farm activities. Then climb the wall and get the reward of watching the entire green oasis below you. The tour takes 5 to 8 hours.
Walking & Biking tours
Walk or cycle in the surroundings of Lake Manyara to complete a tour of 2 to 4 hours. The tour brings you closer to Lake Manyara National Park and gives you the chance to see animals like zebra, gazelle, hippo and buffalo roaming in the open plains.
Lake Manyara National Park stretches for 50 km along the base of the 600 meter high escarpment of the African Rift Valley, and borders village settlements.
Farm Tours
This is a tour of 3 to 4 hours that offers the chance to see the irrigated crop fields of rice and bananas and also meet peasants and craftsmen. The tour further includes a visit to Makonde craftsmen who do wood-carvings, as well as a visit to a local brewery that makes banana beer. The tour also provides the opportunity to taste traditional foods.
Bird Watching
Take a walk to Kirurumo River to view colonies of birds inhabiting big fig trees. The most common birds to be seen during the tour include the yellow-billed stork, pelican, Marabou stork and several species of heron. The tour takes 2 hours.
Walk to Balaa Hill
Spend half a day to walk from your lodge to Balaa Hill below the Rift valley wall. The tour includes meeting the local people in their daily activities and visiting a local school. The climax of the tour is climbing the Rift valley wall for the splendid views of Lake Manyara ,Local villages, and irrigated farms. The tour also offers the opportunity to see species of birds and huge baobab trees.
Manyara Forest Walk
Enjoy a walk on the edge of the Great Rift Valley with beautiful views of Lake Manyara and the National Park below. Learn more about plants, insects, birds and small mammals from a knowledgeable local guide.
Miwaleni Waterfall
Hike to this impressive lake and waterfall, both lined with thriving papyrus plants. At night, leopards and hippos frequent the area, but during the day, visitors can swim in the refreshing pool beneath the falls.
Visit to Masai boma
Experience masai life by visiting their village and explore the culture with their local daily activities like dancing, home welcome songs, cattle milking etc.
Morning jogging:
Start the day with road walk or jogging. You will be accompanied to run to the shores of Lake Manyara , or across the open farms of the area, or just along the main road that stretches from Mto wa Mbu to Ngorongoro.
Market tour:
If you are in Mto wa Mbu on one of the scheduled market days, ask us to show you around. An ordinary market day is held on every Thursday but a grand market day is held on the 22nd of every month. You will be surprised to find that the market day is not just a chance for buying and selling, but also time for slaughtering, drinking and eating.
